Barbara Boughton was born into the world of art, design and business. Her father’s firm imported sheers and silks from Europe, introducing her to other cultures and to the business world. Her parents gave her the gift of making her own design decisions, having the experience of creating her own environment. Boughton studied painting and interior design at the Rhode Island School of Design and the New York School of Interior Design. She participated in the European Honors Program in Rome, and was the recipient of the Sydney Richmond Burleigh Award for Excellence in Design. She is the founder and creator of the workshop "Creating Home from the Inside Out". This workshop redefined the traditional professional/client relationship and encouraged the creation of Home from the client’s inner self. It combined the aesthetic with the psychological, the practical and the professional. For the last 25 years she has been designing homes, restaurants, apartments, shops, and businesses in the Tri-state area of New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts and specializing in Berkshire County. Much of Boughton’s work is in custom design: furniture and cabinets, kitchens and baths and carefully selected exquisite fabrics and carpets.
